This is the inaugural symposium of the Australian C. elegans community, and it will be held at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), The University of Queensland, and supported by the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR).

The Australian C. elegans community is going through an incredible expansion, more than doubling in number within the last 9 years, and with five new labs opened within the last two years.  This is generating a wave of excitement, enthusiasm, and hope that important discoveries from this community will answer fundamental questions in biology and neuroscience, and facilitate the development of novel treatments for human pathologies.

This symposium will bring together the C. elegans researchers in Australia and overseas, but also reach out to those scientists working with other model organisms to generate a convergence platform for key collaborations and sharing of expertise on the most recent technological advances.

The meeting will include four sessions:

• Aging and Degeneration

• Synapse Formation and Function

• Sensory Function and Behaviour

• Mechanisms of Development and Regeneration

This event, predicted to host around 200 participants, has been greatly supported by the Clem Jones Centre for Ageing Dementia Research (CJCADR), as it matches the core themes of the Centre on understanding the physiological and pathological function of the nervous system. Importantly, thanks to the outstanding financial support from the CJCADR and QBI, the registration is free.  You will still have to formally register for catering purposes, but at no cost.
